Dr. Akio Mimura, Chairman of the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) led a high-level JCCI Economic Mission to Thailand and Malaysia on 4 and 5 February 2016. Dr Akio Mimura is the Senior Advisor and Honorary Chairman of Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation. The delegation sought to enhance the bilateral relationship between Japan and Malaysia, to support the globalization activities of Japanese SMEs, as well as to explore business development of Japanese companies in and with Malaysia, and to look for collaboration possibilities with Malaysian companies.
With these objectives, JCCI and MAJECA jointly organized the “Malaysia-Japan Economic Forum” on 4 February 2016 at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.

The Forum highlighted the business potential in Malaysia, focusing on 2 primary topics:-
(i) Energy Issues & Concerns/ Energy Efficiency,
(ii) Malaysia’s position as a Halal Hub

The Second Minister of International Trade and Industry, Malaysia, YB Dato’ Seri Ong Ka Chuan delivered the Keynote Speech at the Forum. In his Keynote Speech, the Second MITI Minister gave an update on Malaysia’s Economy and also addressed issues on economic integration, particularly through TPP, RCEP and the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) and offered encouragement and support from the Malaysian Government on how these regional platforms can enhance Malaysia’s economic growth and global market reach through the Japanese participation in the various economic sectors.
